DIY Homemade Maggi Noodles

Today’s post has been on my mind for SO LONG. It’s been on my content calendar for months and because the original maggi noodles (no matter how harmful they are for you) are so good, I really felt the pressure trying my hand at this recipe. I did an Instagram post on whether or not y’all Maggi noodles as a kid as well as if you eat Maggi as an adult. Most people ate Maggi noodles as a kid, but do not as an adult. Now…I think I know why. Maybe you realized how bad they were for you and stopped (cause we healthy, right fam?)…well then….I got ya covered! No need to stop eating delicious noodles just cause they have a ton of fake shit…cause life is too short for any sort of fakeness. 

I have successfully made Maggi noodles at home from scratch. Well, almost. I bought plain Hakka noodles at Patel Brothers (LOVE PB). Other than that, I made my own Maggi “Taste Maker,” AKA the masala packet that comes with the noodles that makes Maggi..well Maggi. 

 

You should know that I added veggies of my own because personally my body feels like absolute shit when I don’t add veggies to my meals. I do get hungry more often if my meal didn’t have a lot of protein, but if I go a day without consuming enough veggies….I am not a happy camper.

This recipe appeals to kids, adults, college kids…Everyone! Enjoy! And lmk what you think.

DIY Homemade Maggi Recipe

Make your own Maggi Taste Maker masala from scratch using spices you have in your home. Add veggies and the your home made masala to plain store bought Hakka noodles and enjoy a healthier version of a desi house hold favorite and staple, Maggi Noodles!

Ingredients

Masala Taste Maker

  • 2 tbsp dry onion powder
  • 1 tbsp dry garlic powder or minced garlic
  • 1/2 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tbsp garam masala powder
  • 1/8 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
  • 1/2 tsp citric acid granules or 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tbsp vegetable or canola oil
  • 1 tsp sugar

Noodles

  • 1 packet Ching's Secret Veg Hakka Noodles

Veggies

  • 1 cup green peas
  • 3 cloves freshly minced garlic
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1 medium green pepper, diced

Instructions

Masala Tastemaker Recipe

  1. Mix all the dry masalas (spices) in a bowl. Heat the oil in a pan. Add all dry spices and mix for about 1 minute. Turn the heat off and let the mixture cool. Grind to form a fine powder (I used my NutriBullet blender).

    PRO TIP: WAIT until the spice mixture cools down to put it in the blender or the mixture won't be as smooth. (I learned the hard way, lol)

To cook the Hakka Noodles:

  1. 1. Boil 3 cups of water and add in the Hakka noodles

    2. Cook for 3-4 minutes, drain and set aside. 

To Cook the Veggies:

  1. 1. Heat 2 tbsp of canola or vegetable oil in a pan.

    2. Once the oil gets hot, add in and roast 1 tsp. Of cumin seeds for 1 minute.

    3. Add minced garlic and diced onions.

    4. Once the onions become translucent add in diced green peppers and peas.

    5. Lastly, add in diced tomatoes

    6. Add the veggies to the plain cooked Hakka noodles 

    PRO TIP: add diced carrots, I didn't have any! I like tangy so I added tomato, but you don't have to. I sauteed the veggies using toasted cumin seeds because my uncle used to make his Ramen noodles that way and they tasted great! I think it adds a kick and GREAT flavor. But you can do without it as well and solely enjoy the DIY Maggi Tastemaker flavor.  

Recipe Notes

TIP: If you do not want to use citric acid granules, you could use 1 tbsp. lime juice after the noodles have been cooked in water.
