Hi, I am Priyanka

Namaste! My name is Priyanka and I am a millenial living and working in Atlanta, Georgia. I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. Since graduating college in 2012, I have lived  in Baltimore, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and now Atlanta. I am an East-coast girl through and through and am enjoying the beauty Atlanta has to offer. It’s a great city for young professionals, dreamers and hustlers with the right amount of southern charm, allowing you to breath and relax.

But honestly, I am an Indian girl at heart. I am a first generation American and have been blessed with a healthy balance of assimilating into mainstream American culture, while experiencing an equal influence, if not more, by my Indian culture.  I love writing, reading, yoga and photography. But most of all, I love connecting to my roots and learning about my culture.

Between living far away from my family (my nuclear family lives in Baltimore and the rest of my family lives in India <–insert tears), living alone for the first time and struggling to connect with my culture, this blog was born. This is my blog, but most of all this blog is OURs. If you’re a first generation desi (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, etc.) this blog is for you. My goal is to create valuable content that makes this blog a one-stop shop for all your questions related to desi culture. Creating a space to celebrate our culture is super important to me and hopefully for you too. Because let’s be real, being brown is just about the BEST thing ever.

Being brown can also be confusing. I mean, I don’t know about you but I grew up in a conservative family where no one really talked about well…anything. I learned a lot on the fly in my 20’s through friends and honest conversations with other South Asian millenials. Navigating our way through adulthood while living in America but keeping our culture is tough and no one really talks about it. So I thought…why not create a space to do so? So wherever others don’t go, ChitChatandChai is gonna go there. I’ll be sure to cover all the taboo topics and more.

So please, stop by, have a cup of chai (or coffee) and say hi, and let me know what you want to read about. I could write for days, but this blog is about YOU and what you want to know. Your wish is my command.
